The winning charity at this meeting was the Carmella Rose Health Foundation presented by an original member, Carol Santalucia. Carol founded this organization in honor of her mother, Carmella Rose, and her journey through an illness that eventually led to her passing. Throughout Carmella’s illness, her family realized the importance of a patient’s partnership with their caregiver, and the impact of this relationship on health outcomes.
Although Carmella was blessed with adequate insurance and a strong network of family, she still had difficulty navigating the complex healthcare system. Her experiences made it clear to her family and friends that every patient needs help finding the appropriate physical and emotional support during times of illness, as well as tools to stay organized.
The Carmella Rose Health Foundation helps people access quality medical care during their healthcare journey. They provide guidance, patient advocacy resources, information about cancer and other conditions, and referrals to community resources in Northeast Ohio. Thank you Carol for introducing us to a wonderful program in NE Ohio! Our group donated $12,500 (+matching contributions) to help Carol help others!
Also presented last night was the Epilepsy Foundation (North East Ohio) presented by Amy Kellog and Reach Out and Read Greater Cleveland presented by Lynn Wieland. Thank you ladies for your persistence and and efforts in promoting these important organizations.
