Q1 2011: Supporting Girls with Sole

January 20, 2011

Our third quarterly meeting arrived amid wintry snow and driving conditions but that did not deter some brave women from venturing out to attend the meeting.  At this meeting we raised $12,725 to support Girls with Sole based in Rocky River. Liz Ferro, founder and executive director of the organization, presented the charity herself and shared her mission of using fitness and wellness to empower the minds, bodies, and souls of girls who have experienced abuse of any kind, or who are at risk.  Liz, who personally experienced sexual abuse as a child, credits athletics and fitness for giving her the self-esteem and inner strength needed throughout her life to overcome difficult times and view herself and her body as purposeful and important.  Liz’s vision to help girls like her or those who are at risk, gave rise to Girls With Sole.

Also at Thursday’s meeting we heard from member Jan Thrope who introduced the Rainey Institute to us and was also featured in Sunday’s Cleveland Plain Dealer.  Lastly, member Pamela Maidens presented the Catholic Community Connection  and their good work in caring for the caregiver.  Great presentations by all!
