Q4 2024: Supporting Zelie’s Home for Pregnant Women Experiencing Homelessness

October 16, 2024

We had another wonderful meeting October 15. Thank you to all who made it out!

Our selected charity was Zelie’s Home, presented by Alane Mastandrea.

Zelie’s Home is a caring community that empowers pregnant and parenting women to take positive and effective action on behalf of themselves and their children by providing physical, emotional, spiritual, and professional support. They serve pregnant women experiencing homelessness. In 2023 they served 37 moms and 56 children residentially. They also served 76 alumni and 149 children. Currently one case manager is working between the two houses, They are raising money to support a second case manager to have one at each house.

The other amazing charities we heard about were:

International Women’s Air And Space Museum, presented by Teresa Andreani and Westside Catholic Center, presented by Wendy Pietrangelo.

Other housekeeping notes:

  • We heard from Chuck Postel, who, together with John Plagens, is starting a 100+ Men Who Care chapter in western Cuyahoga/eastern Lorain counties. If you know any men who would like to join (tell your husbands, boyfriends, dads, uncles, etc!!), send us a message and we’ll share contact information.
  • Our member survey is still open. We’d love to hear from you about what we can do different/better. Please complete it here.
  • Post COVID, our numbers have dwindled as has our in-person attendance. But the needs of local charities have not! Please share about 100+ Women Who Care on your social media accounts, with friends and family, etc. Remember, folks can join as a team, making the financial commitment very small!
