On a beautiful summer day, our group gathered at The Aviator for yet another meeting where we made a big impact in a short time!
Our fishbowl had a large number of charities, but the three selected were:
- Safety To Go, presented by Carol Mains
- Second Mile Outreach, presented by Barbara Nitzsche
- Meals on Wheels Cleveland West, presented by Holly Neumann
Our winning charity was Safety To Go. They offer a Portable Safety Town program that provides safety town and safety awareness to primary age children in grades K-2 in Cleveland, Ohio and surrounding communities. The main goal of the program is to provide safety town to inner-city children in an effort to prevent childhood accidents, injuries and deaths. As a retired teacher, Carol created the program to address a real need she saw with Cleveland youth who were not served by the national Safety Town program.
Barbara told us about Second Mile Outreach, an organization dedicated to helping individuals and families in crisis — especially Veterans in transition — by meeting essential needs with dignity and compassion. SMO serves anyone in need in Cuyahoga County through their food bank, Veterans furniture program, school supply drives and Christmas present drives. They serve over 12,500 individuals per year.
While many have heard of the national Meals on Wheels program, the Cleveland West organization does not receive any funding from them. Rather, they independently fund their mission to combat food insecurity and social isolation while supporting independence, health and wellness, and living with dignity for all. Their home meal delivery is available for residents of Bay Village, North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls, Olmsted Township and Westlake. Eligible recipients are individuals unable to shop for or prepare meals safely by themselves. This includes the elderly, and individuals who are temporarily ill, convalescing, disabled or home-bound.

In the non-profit space, Equitable is able to help support employees with complimentary planning services and implementing retirement benefits at no cost to the organization. She also specializes in working with individuals and families through financial and retirement planning, taking into account their goals, concerns, and risk tolerances.
