We are happy to report that the summer meeting produced a bowl-full of charitable submissions! After three awesome presentations of new charitable organizations, our membership chose to support a group by the name of Special Stars which was presented by Carol Valley (with moral support from her sister Cheryl!). Special Stars is a recreational organization for adults and children with special needs. The organization was started in 1987 with just 50 members and has grown now to an average membership of 250. Funding for Special Stars has come from the members themselves ($1 annually!), fundraisers, private donations, raffles, candy sales and the United Way. Our donation of $12,775 (+matching contributions) will go towards funding the membership so that they may continue to participate and enjoy activities together, and with each other, all year round, especially during the holidays.
Also presented at the meeting by Janice Bubnick was Metro Health Child Life, who is in need of tumbleforms and other necessary items for helping a child’s hospital stay be less scary by providing access to enjoyable activities. Lastly we heard from Gina Pilko who presented the E-Prep and Village Prep Schools. These high performing and rigorous schools are part of the Building Excellent Schools network and they are seeking funding for additional classroom spaces due to growing enrollment.
