Q4 2023: Helping Provide Housing for Moms

October 2, 2023

For our last meeting of 2023, we learned about three wonderful charities doing impressive work in the CLE! Member and Leader, Kassy Wyman presented the Young Filmmaker’s Academy, Katie Holzheimer presented Impact Youth Inc. and Amy McMacken introduced us to Sisters Haven, for whom our chapter voted to support this quarter.

Sisters Haven is a faith-based non-profit, that provides safe housing and a loving community to pregnant women and mothers with children without judgment, at the most vulnerable time of their life. They serve adult women who are experiencing homelessness, poverty and lack a support system to help them through pregnancy. Sisters Haven is currently renovating a home in Cleveland’s Cudell neighborhood. By the end of 2023, it plans to be able to house up to seven pregnant women, who can remain in the home until their child is approximately 9 months old.  Women who live in the home will have access to several programs and resources to help ensure a successful pregnancy and develop a plan for eventually becoming self-sufficient and living on their own. There is a critical shortage of housing for pregnant women who are experiencing homelessness, and a desperate need for this program as there is no similar supportive housing community for pregnant women on the west side of Cleveland. Our donation of $10,050 will be supporting the completion and readiness of this renovation home.
