Q2 2013: Helping Children through the Guidestone Organization

April 18, 2013

We had a great turn out last evening for our meeting, perhaps it was the great weather! The fish bowl was plentiful and we learned about three well deserving charities. Our presenters were “gold stars” and were up to the podium for their first time.

Christine Dabramo kicked off the evening with her presentation of Guidestone, which is the old Berea Children’s home, whose legacy is serving the needs of families and children for the last 150 years. Next up was Ann Paras who presented the Village Food Project, established in September of 2010, which serves nourishing meals to those families experiencing a cancer crisis, and finally Robin Kaufman rounded out the presentations by presenting Blessing House to our group. Blessing House is a Children’s Crisis Care Center providing safe shelter and care for children whose parents find themselves in a situation where they need immediate care for their children, whatever that crisis may be.

While all of the presentations were wonderful, the membership voted to support Guidestone at this meeting. In 1960 the agency shifted its focus to serving children and youth needing specialized therapeutic programs. Our donation of $13,700 (+ matching corporate contributions) will be used for providing some of these much needed therapeutic programs not covered by other sourced funds. Think yoga, martial arts, etc. and other physical programs for the children.
