Q2 2012: Completing our Second Year of Giving

April 19, 2012

This was our eighth meeting and marked an end to our second full year of charitable giving! At this meeting we heard from three seasoned members of our group, all presenting wonderful organizations in need of funding. The winning charity was presented by Mim Conway who showcased her Dream On Kids via the Dream on Foundation. In 2008, The Dream On Foundation adopted all the first graders at Hannah Gibbons-Nottingham School in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Mim and her group of volunteers is shepherding these “at-risk” students from first grade through their timely graduation from high school in 2020. Those who graduate from high school on time will receive scholarships for college or post secondary education with the mission to eventually lead to post  graduation employment. An unanticipated risk to the success of this program is getting these children back and forth from their new school(s). Our funds ($12,200 plus matching gifts), along with a grant and some additional fundraising will provide this transportation via chartered vans and drivers. As these kids are only in the 4th grade at this time, it is too young to expect them to take public transportation. Filling this gap ensures consistent and safe transportation for these kids!

Also presented at the meeting was Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland by Lisa Stumpf and Women’s Outreach/River’s Edge presented by Judy Albanese. Please check out these websites and learn more about these wonderful missions!
