For our Summer meeting we gathered in person (hurray!) and learned about three awesome organizations. Much appreciation goes out to Becca Huntington for presenting Seeds of Literacy, Theresa Medsker for her presentation of Women of Hope and Jennifer Neil for presenting The Hood Squad 2one6, for which our membership voted to support this quarter.
The Hood Squad 2one6 is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2020 with the mission of bringing hot showers and food to the unsheltered homeless communities in and around Northeast Ohio. In addition to these services, the organization engages in street outreach and provides much needed warm sub-zero clothing in the winter and functional and clean clothing in the summer. The founder of this organization was himself homeless at one time and has firsthand experience and knowledge of the needs of those living on the streets. Volunteers understand how something as a warm shower, a set of clean clothes and nourishment can inspire hope, dignity and a path forward for community members experiencing tough times. Our donation of $11,700 plus an additional $5000 from the Schulze Family Foundation is dedicated to support all these volunteers helping others!
