Q4 2015: A Touching Poem Presented

October 2, 2015

So we are all getting older, and one day someone may tell us we should no longer be on the road, and even might take our driver’s license away! How are we going to get to a doctor’s appointment, or to the grocery store, or even to take advantage of other resources available just for seniors? Old Brooklyn seniors in this situation don’t have to wait around for their family for a ride if a van from Senior Citizen Resources could show up, and now they will continue to do so with our help. We voted to support Senior Citizen Resources at our October meeting to help them toward their goal of replacing two of their old vans on their last legs. We are hopeful that our donation of $13,300 helps them meet this goal! We would like to thank member Lynn Wieland for introducing us to SCR.

Also presented at the meeting was the Cleveland Dragon Boat Association by member Sally Wilson and HER Ideas in Motion by member Claire Van Antwerp. Please check out all three of these wonderful charities supporting our local Cleveland area!

Lastly a few women asked if I would post the poem that Jeff Griffiths (HONEO) read at our meeting.  This poem was recited by Ruby Dee during the 2005 National Memorial Day Concert and has been inspirational for Jeff and his team.

Today
Today is ours, let’s live it
And love is strong, let’s give it
A song can help, let’s sing it
And peace is dear, let’s bring it
The past is gone, don’t rue it
Our work is here, let’s do it
Our world is wrong, let’s right it
The battle hard, let’s fight it
The road is rough, let’s clear it
The future vast, don’t fear it
Is faith asleep? Let’s wake it
Today is ours, let’s take it
